Water Math Bag

I got this idea from a blog [seriously I dont think I would be able to homeschool if it weren't for all the ideas I get on blogs]. We drew a line down the middle of a ziploc bag, put some water in along with ten beads and sealed it. I wrote the numbers 1-10 on a pieces of paper then took two numbers [that added up to 10] and put one on each side of the bag. Then Yusuf had to put the amount of beads that matched the number. After a while he wanted more beads so I added 10 more, made a line across [so there were 4 squares] and did the activity with 4 numbers, which got a little too tough for him but he enjoyed it. Maybe hell do some more of it when Baba comes home.

In training...

Ibby watching with lots of excitement!

My big boy!
My hard working helper = )

InshaAllah he'll make a good husband some day ; )

House

Yusuf got a new carseat...which came in a big box, which meant an opportunity to make something cool :)

Heres what we did:

Cut out a door and used a toilet paper roll for a door knob....

Made a mail box out of a cookie box...

Cut an old receiving blanket to make curtains...

Complete with a phone and laptop...

And of course a prayer mat, bed, side table with a book... and last but not least, a basketball

And Ibby is joining the fun too.

Bubble Paint

Yesterday we did bubble paint. I put a little bit of bubbles in each section of a muffin tin. Then added some food coloring. Yusuf then took a straw and blew into the bubbles. Once he made a bunch of bubbles we took a piece of paper [ cardboard like paper worked much better then regular printer paper], and voila, a beautiful bubble picture.

Ibby took part by imitating Yusuf blowing into a straw.

Money Circle Time

Today we did a circle time about money.
After our usual things we do : surahs, songs and books, we read a book about coins. Then we opened Yusuf's money bank and sorted all his coins.

After we sorted and counted it all, we used vinegar and salt to clean the really dirty pennies with a toothbrush.

We then used a pencil to rub the imprint of the coin, and stamps to make a collage.

Heres our finished product:

Later today when Baba gets home, we will be going to the bank to open an account for Yusuf. = )

Introducing...

I want to keep my Umm Yusuf blog personal and private, so I decided to start a homeschooling blog where I can document our work and share ideas.
Enjoy! = )
